How to light a majlis
A majlis is usually long, with seating along the walls and an open centre. One small chandelier leaves the ends of the room dark. The best layout is either two or three matching chandeliers along the centre line of the room, or one large central chandelier with wall lights above the seating.
Choosing the size
- For two or three chandeliers in a row, each can be about one-third of the room width.
- For one central chandelier, add the room length and width in metres and multiply by 10 to get the diameter in centimetres.
- Keep at least 2.1 m between the floor and the bottom of the chandelier; in tall rooms hang it lower, at about 2.5–3 m, so it feels part of the room.
