How to choose and place a floor lamp

• Next to a sofa or armchair, the bottom of the shade should be at about shoulder height when seated, roughly 100–120 cm from the floor.
• An arc lamp needs a reach that brings the shade over the centre of the coffee table or seat, and a heavy base for stability.
