Why a linear chandelier over the dining table
Most dining tables are long, and a round chandelier lights only the middle. A linear, oval or rectangular fixture follows the shape of the table, spreads light evenly over every seat and makes the table the centre of the room.
Dining chandelier size guide
- Length: about half to two-thirds of the table length. A 240 cm table suits a fixture 120–160 cm long.
- Distance from the edge: leave at least 30 cm from each end of the table so nobody hits their head when standing up.
- Hanging height: the bottom of the chandelier 75–90 cm above the tabletop; a little higher under tall ceilings.
- Round tables: choose a round or oval chandelier about half to two-thirds of the table diameter.

Light for dinner and for work
Use warm white bulbs of 2700–3000 K and add a dimmer: bright light for homework or work at the table, soft light for dinner. In open-plan rooms, match the dining chandelier with pendants over the kitchen island in the same finish.
